Taco 572 bypass control

Hi, I have a hydronic heating system with 6 zones. 3 of the zones are on 1st floor so it can get complicated maintaining consistent temp throughout. Could I keep 2 of the zones open using the bypass levers so when the 3rd thermostat calls for heat, the other 2 also receive heat passively? Thought this might be a “hack” for the odd 3-zone situation I’m in.

Second question- are there check valves in the pipes to prevent baseboard water from returning when the bypass lever is set to OPEN?

thanks!

    you have 6 thermostats?

just turn the cold ones up a degree or 2 more (?)

On floor 1 I have 3 thermostats, floor 2 has 1, basement has 1, and final is indirect water heater which isn’t as relevant.

I was trying to save energy by reducing the number of rooms calling for heat. One of the rooms is a sunroom which gets colder than the rest of the house. I wanted to leave that open so it gets warm whenever the living room turns on.

I could be looking at this all wrong, trying to learn how to manage these thermostats and valves. Thanks!

so you could open the sun room valve manual lever,
but you could also overheat that sunroom if other stats call at random, nonoverlapping times, wasting energies to that room,
if it has its own thermostat, which it must if it has its own valve, then, again, I say, turn that stat up and at least it limits out,
    right?

not sure what you meant by bypass,
do you mean the manual open lever on the zone valve?

    subject line, duh

great question, and one of the 571 attributes is the manual lever. Make sure you disconnect the valve from thermostat connection to prevent the valve from overheating.

Thanks for the replies. I think I should clarify that there are 3 zones on the first floor with 3 thermostats. Zones are sunroom/office (so this room is occupied a few days a week), living room, tv room. If I set all stats to 67 the total number of heat calls per day will increase a lot. I really just want to know what the manual bypass is designed for and if there is any harm in keeping it open. I’ll keep the related stat turned off.

The sunroom is the least insulated room in the house and its stat is on an exterior wall go figure. So it’s not well balanced. But when I keep its valve open, it gets residual heat when other stats call, even the water heater, which is usually enough to make it comfortable.
