Welded pipe

I have some passing, 2”, steam service valves to change. I’d like to change them to flanged valves and have a mig welder on site. What electrode is best for seamless pipe and weld-on flanges? Operating pressure is 40psig.
With three 2” valves to change immediately, and a 2-1/2” later, the change to flanged valves is appealing.

Talk to the welder who is going to weld it. Most pipe is stick welded with 6010 and or 7018 rod for a DC welder or 6011 for an ac welder. DC is what is usually used. Some fab shops use MIG to fabricate in the shop but it usually isn't used in the field. No reason it can't be used by a qualified welder. 40 psi steam is no joke.4
