DRAIN VALVE - BURNAM BOILER

Options
I just had my boiler serviced today. The drain valve has a very very small drip. The service tech quoted 1000 to replace and 600 for a quick "bandaid." I have been researching and saw drain valves range from 20-50. Is it possible to purchase one of those and replace after draining water? I am very handy and the prices seem absurd for the work that needs done.

    Don't ever call him again!  Cheapest solution for you...
    1) Wire brush off that crud.
    2) Vaseline on the threads.
    3) Hardware store for a Hose Cap with washer.  Tighten with fingers as tight as you can.  Shouldn't need pliers.

    Option two...Drop system and replace yourself  .

    @rasord99

    We can't talk prices on this forum. But some companies are giving the whole industry a bad name.

    Was the technician in a different state? Maybe that price included airfare and a hotel room.
    8.33 lbs./gal. x 60 min./hr. x 20°ΔT = 10,000 BTU's/hour

    Two btu per sq ft for degree difference for a slab
