Steam Boiler, 2psi, 1,000,000btu, equalizer

Installing a drop header where all risers, header, distribution mains are 4" and wet returns are 2 1/2". Working from a diagram with no dimensions. There is an equalizer that runs around the back of the boiler and tied into both steam supplies at the heat exchanger. Can't tell from the diagram if this equalizer piping is 4" or 2 1/2" but believe it should be 4" pipe for correct pressure. Can someone verify this?

For a steady water line use both 2 1/2 return tappings and a 3 inch equilizer and I would suggest either a 5 or 6 inch header . I recently did a repipe on a bouncing Utica 500 btu and used the 2 return inlets and and a both riser into a 4 inch drop . After cleaning the boiler the water line was steady the whole entire cycle building owner stated that it was the first time he saw the water line not bouncing . First time w a Utica of that size w a unmoved water line while in a steady state of steaming zero tilting a whole cycle . Personally I would not use there near boiler piping diagram the equilizer drop is not something I ve ran across and is a little different then most near boiler piping layouts . As for the equilizer I personally only use 2.5 eq on boiler 500 to 750 anything above is 3 . If using both return inlets don’t reduce and remember to install a swing joint to lessen stress on the boilers block . If you look at larger boilers piping diagrams that show both return tapping used they will show a swing joint that’s required .
    Peace and good luck clammy

Amen, Clamster...Those manufacturers drawings and specs DO matter (engineered and Field-procen).  Follow and exceed them sometimes and you'll see the benefits.  Still want some pictures 📷...Mad Dog 🐕
