System 2000: EK1 or EK2

in Oil Heating
We have a 3800 square foot house in Connecticut with oil heating. We have old, plentiful windows where heat is most likely being lost. We are replacing our 38 year old steel boiler and indirect water heater, and are leaning towards the System 2000, but cannot decide between the EK1 or EK2. Would the EK1 be sufficient? Thank you for any help.

How much oil did you burn last year? What's your zip code? Do you use oil for domestic hot water?
There was an error rendering this rich post.

I find it odd that your installing contractor doesn't have an opinion on this. The load requirements need to be determined a room by room manual J heat loss calculation. If we know what boiler the EK is replacing and the firing rate and fuel consumption that would also be helpful.
The Energy Kinetics boilers are fantastic. They can be setup with different firing rates to best match the design load. But the design load should be determined as accurately as possible before the installation.0 -
Has an EK dealer been to the site?
Definitely do not go by what you have now.
The EK-1 has a max input of 1.00 GPH, so a very conservative net of 100K BTU's would give you 26.3 BTU's per square foot.
The object is to see what the heat loss is on a design day.
Take your domestic hot water needs into consideration as well.

Thank you for your posts, everyone, and for placing your confidence in Energy Kinetics to upgrade to System 2000, @NZ23 . If your home is comfortable in the winter and you are using less than 2000 gallons per year (and you are not a snow bird who leaves for the winter or similar), an EK1 will be appropriate. Your heating pro's heat loss calculation will confirm this. Please feel free to contact us, your dealer, or your territory manager:
