Is Propoly vent pipe ok to vent a Burnham SCG-3NI condensing boiler?

Hi, I am planning on having a gently used older Burnham SCG3NI condensing boiler (discontinued in 2012) installed to heat a small apartment.   I don’t think Pro Poly venting existed when this boiler was made and it’s not listed as an alternative in the Burnham installation guide.   Obviously can just go the AL29 route but just seeing what options are available.   I believe these Burnham SCG’s are Class 2 if I’m not mistaken and Duravent Pro Poly site states it can be used for Class 2 and 4.

Ask the manufacturer of the boiler.

Looks like a CAT3 appliance. stainless is your only option i see.
If the Mfg does not have it listed on the install instructions then you by all rights are bound to that.

That boiler looks like it is a cast iron non-condensing boiler?

    anyway from the manual
"Do not use this boiler with galvanized, Type 304 or Type 316 stainless steel, non metallic or any other
    non AL29-4C® based vent systems
    ."

Then what are you supposed to use?

Use the AL29-4C products that are available from Selkirk or Hart and Cooley https://www.supplyhouse.com/Z-FLEX-2SVEPWCF0302-3-x-2-Z-Vent-Pipe-9784000-p

    and a bunch more

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Guys thank you.   Just want to be clear but this is in fact a class 2 condensing boiler hence the SCG nomenclature (self condensing gas).   These were pre Alpine models.   I honestly think you can use Propoly.   When they wrote the manuals for these Burnhams back in 2004 to 2012 ProPoly didn’t exist so therefore it wouldn’t be in the manual.    I’m going to run it by Burnham just in case.    ZFlex is my alternative which is steel and about 35% more in cost.

Ok but you asked if you can use it, and the only manual available for that product says that you can't use anything that is not AL29-4c.

you can read more on this brochure, but they don't make any claims that this is a truly condensing product, just that the heat exchanger mixes cool water with the water in the boiler. This is a sealed combustion non-condensing boiler

SCG does not stand for "self condensing gas" it stands for "sealed combustion gas" as stated in the product brochure

Polypropylene vent existed prior to 2012, I know because we sold it back then

Category 2 appliance is what I think you are claiming this is, there is no such appliance as category 2, the label exists but to the best of my knowledge no such product ever existed on market, and Burnham makes no claim that this is a cat2 appliance.

My mistake.   I thought it was one their earlier versions of a self condensing.   I will just got with the z flex which is al29 and listed in their manual.     Better to be safe.   Thank you.
