Main vent placement

Getting ready to splice in the Gortons on the ventless side of the building.

Is it ok to put them on these horizontal sections of main and return?  They do go on about 20' further but from here on they run up against the floor where there's no room to go up.

You can drill and tap for 1/4" which will handle a Gorton #2.

These may be over kill with the strainers and pipe supports.
It was an old abandoned/abused system.

Great idea.  Although I wanted to give each a shut off valve as well.  Is it ok to go without the valve?

The 2nd picture added is a better shot.

Valve would not be necessary. Just shut the system down if needed, plug or cap if you have a leaker. Seldom with G2's.

Awesome.  Will make the job some much quicker and easier.

    * Ended up being a 5 minute job, so relieved, my pipes will be too!

Best piping practice would tap into the top of the pipe or at 45 degrees from the top, minimizing condensate intrusion. Black pipe with iron elbows are preferred. Galvanized fittings can flake and clog vents.

Nice work to a great system!

Thank you, the pipes are black.. will swap out the elbow and adapter for black as well and get a 45° on there coming out of the main.  Thanks so much

The bill for last month just arrived and is brutal.  Looking forward to something smaller next month.

Sitting by the boiler right now.  It just cycled at 0 psi with the thermostat shutting it off.  The thermostat is located in the living area above the newly-added vents.  Pretty happy
