Steam vent valve tongue

Do steam vents NEED a tongue for condensate? I'm looking at adapters like this one and they say they are compatible with steam, but do not have tongues.

This one says 1-pipe compatible, and install instructions do not say anything about a tongue.

Is it the end of the world if there is no tongue?

It shouldn't matter at all. Most vents don't have the tongue.

Actually, I see this in the documentation for the valve:

The venting action occurs during each system (boiler) on-cycle only
when heat is required. Air will re-enter the radiator during the system
off-cycle via a patented “‘across the seat” vacuum breaker. This
    eliminates condensate build-up
    and allows natural system aspiration
    to occur.

Probably not the end of the world. In fact, Many have used them without even a tremor.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Excellent! Thank you. So providing I'm not running a full vacuum system (I'm not) and the rad pitch is correct, I should be ok.

I have the valve you posted on my system, zero issue. Also, none of my regular vents have a tongue and zero issues. So yes, you should be ok.

The condensate build up is the water in the rad not returning without the vac bkr letting air into the rad after boiler cycle.

This has been discussed here somewhat.

With your vent vertical it should drain any cond that might build up within it.
