How to plumb a hot water cast iron home radiator?

I am installing some hot water cast iron radiators in my house. I plan to put the inlet valve low on one side and outlet up high on the opposite side. Is that OK? Some in my house have the inlet valve low on one side and the outlet low on the opposite side. Some have inlet valve low on one side and outlet high on the same side.
Does it matter which side the bleeder valve is on and why?
