Amtrol boilermate wh-7l question

I have the boilermate with a Burnham boiler. For a few weeks now the system has been short cycling at a similar time of day and more often in damp weather.  It short cycles by clicking and the blower fan starts for about 2 seconds and stops. Over and over, and over.  Eventually if i leave it would right itself, or i would shut the system off and start it later. When it starts running again its good sometimes for days.  I went through the Burnham and checked everything and really could not find a smoking gun.
Then I read something that clicked in my head that short cycling is many times caused by a thermostat.  So after i shut off my zones,  which did not affect anything,  i was down to the Amtrol Boilermate.  So I started pressing the button and started upping the temp from 126 to 130, and low and behold, the Burnham starts up and the short cycling stopped.  Some things i noticed further playing with the button on the Amtrol - although i have it set to 130, the actual temp when i press the button once says 121. At this temp the boiler is idle so its not running or asking for more hot water from the boiler.  Playing with the temp, the system acts erratically sometimes shutting off and resetting.  Also, i was able to invoke a short cycle setting the temp in the 120s, but utimately that's where I'd want the temp not in the 130s where it seems to work.
So my question is what needs replacing here the temp sensor? Or temp control? Or both? I noticed the original part is discontinued for temp control they now suggest a mechanical control that is retrofitted? Does anyone have experience that the new part works?

The control probably has a 10° differential so it wouldn't start recovery until it got down to 120°.
That being said, I've removed quite a few of those problematic controllers and installed a simple Honeywell L4006A.

Are the zones controlled by Taco zones valves?
