90% AFUE - does not need New chimney liner ?? -- STEAM Boiler - Gas

Instead of chimney liner the vent is through PVC vented outside

Another contract says: New Chimney liner is a MUST for new efficient gas steam boiler regardless of efficiency

Totally confused????

    Every steam boiler ever discussed here is at most high 80%'s.

    That requires a metal flue chimney of some sort. And if existing masonry, probably needs a new liner.

    Are you certain you have a steam boiler?

    The person suggesting the PVC may think you have a water boiler, if he looked at your steam boiler and said PVC, don't consider him.

    If you post a picture of your boiler we can settle the discussion. Floor to ceiling of 4 sides.

    Thanks. It is steam and there is an existing chimney for the newly defunct steam boiler that needs to be replaced.
