can anyone explain exactly how this 3 way valve works

I think the arrow on the left side of your drawing may be oriented the wrong way.
If I'm correct, P4, P5 and P6 may require lower water temperature? I'm guessing the mixing/diverting valve allows some water to bypass.
On second thought, we need to see the system returns and how they tie in.0 -
