Steam Radiator Part

Had two of my techs on a job site today fixing a broken Radiator valve when they came across this fitting, see Photo, this was in the supply side. Looks like it may have, at one time, been used to restrict steam flow, not 100% sure, Anyway, looking for advice Knowledge here, does it have to go back, and or do I need any other special instructions on putting system back online, like can I use a regular trap that was on it, which is the Marsh 1N, do we need any other ancillary fittings installed.
