Turning oil burner on and off

With the cost of Oil this summer we have been turning the boiler off and only turning it on every other day for showers and then turning it back off- rather than burning a gallon a day we have burnt an eighth of a tank in the last six months is this heat cycling going to crack the boiler?

Thanks Mattmia2- so it’s safe to continue using it this way?0

Cycling is okay especially if the boiler is firinqg correctly at its actual rating! With the price of fuel this winter it will be more important than ever that contractors know how to tune up equipment properly with a combustion analyzer. Just because someone has one doesn't mean they know how to use it.1

Perfectly normal to use it this way.0
