I’m now considering a wood burning insert for the fireplace. I have acreage-free wood. What is the best brand, not too expensive, but will last? Someone will have to install it. This part I can’t do.

Do you have a nearby fireplace shop? They would be up to speed on what is available
Most all wood burning devices now need to meet the EPA requirements, and also the state requirements. My first choice would be a wood stove just in front of where the fireplace is
You get a nice quiet comfortable heat from a wood stove, radiant heat. Inserts blow hot air and dust on you 😖 and generate some noise
New wood burners need dry wood, ideally cut and split a year ahead of the burn. Todays high efficiency wood burners don’t handle green wood well.Bob "hot rod" Rohr
