When there isn’t refrigerant in the system does txv stay open or close and why?

open. there are 3 forces acting on a txv. evaporator pressure, spring pressure, and bulb pressure. evaporator+spring=closing force. bulb pressure is opening force. minus the evaporator pressure the bulb pressure, which would be ambient or air temperature, converted to pressure, would overcome the spring pressure as the spring pressure only adds a few psi. the evaporator and the bulb normally cancel each other out and the spring is the superheat setting device. adds the force to adjust the superheat.0
