Used tank storage.

Hello everyone.
My buddy is giving me a used natural gas 50 gal water heater.
He installed it a year ago and then he recently switched to a tankless unit.
I don't need to use it immediately but I would like to know the best way to store it for later use, as I have rental units with older ones that will probably go within the next 3 years.
Thanks in advance.

Flush and clean interior well. Use acid if lime build-up is evident. Leave drain valve on bottom open and store it indoors or at least under over.-1

I would clean as above, but plug all holes with loosely tightened fittings.
A mouse would love to live in there.0 -

Hi, I know of two ways to store glass-lined tanks. Either keep them full of water so the anode can protect the tank, or drain them and get them completely dry, so rusting cannot happen. I suppose mouse screens at the ports wouldn't hurt either!
