HB Smith Boiler

I'm helping a friend.
Bill has an older HB Smith oil-fired hot water boiler and is trying to determine how long it will last. It has been regularly serviced by his heating company (he has a contract) but he has other upgrades planned for his house (central air, bathroom reno) and is basically trying to figure what needs to be done in what order. By the serial number (D85-3662P), we believe that this model was built in 1985. 8 Series S/W-4 1.10/1.25 113.9/131M. It was purposely oversized at the time of installation because he didn't know if he was going to finish the basement (he didn't). He has well water and an added a Crown 40 gallon indirect water heater. The chimney has a SS liner. The burner info is still to be added.
I realize that it is impossible to predict the condition without actually seeing the unit, he just wants to know if this was a well-built unit that has some years left in it.

That boiler should last a good long time. The 8 series units from that era were built like tanks. And they run very well with Carlin EZ-Gas burners.

Agree with @Steamhead the series 8 is a solid boiler. No predictions but they held up very well. There as good or better than a new boiler efficiency wise. The boiler sections came out of the Boyertown Foundry where both Smith & Peerless boilers were made.
