I have a Burnham steam boiler, about 15 years old. This morning the house was not coming up to temp. I thought the water was low. But when I went down to investigate I found the vent damper creeping open, the boiler came to life and then it started to creep closed and the boiler started to shut down, and then open again.
It was not responding to the presscontrol, it was just going on its merry way continuously cycling. I took it apart wiggled all the connection and put it back into operation. It seems like its working now. Is this a sign its on its way out or do I need to be looking elsewhere?

Maybe the switch that tells the boiler that it is open and safe to fire is failing.0
