Repipe of a 1920's hot water radiator system-resources

Can anyone give me a good resource for piping a larger 1920's home with big hot water radiators. We have an open basement and most all the radiator supply and return pipe is in the basement. Over the years, the original setup was modified badly. I am not sure if a one pipe monoflow could still be hot at the end so I am thinking I may have to do a reverse return. I could at this point separate the first and second floors as another option, possibly monoflow. The basement is huge and the cost of copper is also. I plan to start by determining how many btus for each radiator to try to determine pipe and boiler sizing. We are going to use a modulating wall hung boiler as the heat source.
