Can you cut a hole in a Fan in a Can pipe to get cooler air into the room with the burner to cool it down?

    It would defeat the purpose of the Fan in a Can.
    If it pulled air from the room when operating it may not close the pressure switch and prevent burner from running.

    It needs to pressurize the room before firing burner.

    How hot is this room getting?

    I'm not sure I understand your Query. There is a hole in the exterior wall that will allow outside air into the boiler/furnace room to be forced into the said room. The fan is connected to the hole in the wall by a pipe made from sheet metal that connects the hole in the wall to the fan housing.

    If you cut a home in the connector pipe, and the connector pipe is located in the boiler/furnace room, then when ever the fan operates, a portion of the air drawn in by the fan will come from the hole in the pipe. that means that the air will be coming from the room that is too hot?!? How does that solve your problem?

    If you want to introduce cold air into the overheated room when the boiler of furnace is not running, just leave the fan on all the time. Or maybe on a thermostat that will run the fan whenever the room is above a given temperature.

    Better yet, insulate the piping in the room that is too hot and conserve that heat to be used where you want it.

    room is about 87 degrees, which is where it has been with the fan in the can operating normally. Now, with a hole in the pipe coming from the ceiling to the floor, it remains 87 several days later.  No change in room temp.
