    DHW

Back in the day, before tankless coils came inside the boiler, this was a standard "Side Arm Coil" for heating domestic hot water. Since the coal was already making heat for the home, why not use it to heat the new fangled indoor plumbing pipes for bathin' and cleanin'

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

When things are being held together with retort cement and high temp silicone, it's time for a new boiler.

@HVACNUT , yeah but gravity hw it will probably out last all of us. Come to think of it the spply and return are small 1"?? maybe there is a pump hidden somewhere. Piping looks too small for gravity

I just watched a Youtube of a new oil burner being installed in a ole boiler/furnace. The burner sat on the floor and was just pushed up to the door with an insulation curtain to close the opening. This looks sophisticated compared to that install. Apparently, they make a pedestal for this purpose. This one could be sitting on the floor as well.
