I know that this "ancient" bit of history won't solve many of today's problems, but I do find this stuff fascinating as a reminder of how important this industry has been, and a reminder of where we were. For those of you who like this stuff, enjoy!!

    Excellent find!

Notice how some of their gas boilers were wet-base models, as opposed to the more-common dry-base. This would have captured more heat.

The Starfire boilers lasted well into the 1980s. Originally they had model numbers that just reflected the number of sections (03, 04 etc.). The "ACE" series was the packaged version, and the final version had "OU" model numbers in the smaller sizes, and "HS" (for high-static, using Carlin flame-retention burners) above 7 sections or so. I've seen all these versions in the field.

@Erin Holohan Haskell , maybe you could extract the radiator and baseboard ratings to add to the Museum?

    "Lifetime cast iron".
I've been by the plant many times. In 81' they were pretty much on the downturn. Utica was a town full of craftsmen. My bride's parents lived just South of Utica. Sad to see the town fall apart. There was a time in the 90's that they were burning houses for insurance. The Amtrak station was beautiful. FIL went to Hamilton College in the 40's. What an era.

Thanks for your comments Steamhead. I always wondered what the HS designation meant.

AJ, thanks so much for this old catalog, printed and put it in my library, had many of these in the old bays. I live just south of Utica. Put my 1st Utica Starfire in right along there, 63 or 64, many since then. retired now. The Reads' were great people.
