Boiler question

Hey all. This is my first post. Disclaimer:
I’m a commercial reno / service plumber just got into residential service the past year. Not much heating experience. A family friend asked me for help with a brand new boiler problem. They got a Utica mgb 095 installed and were getting no heat to the baseboards. The feed and the return were both getting hot and one baseboard would start to get warm. Original plumber or handyman whatever he is couldn’t figure it out. I called customer support and explained everything. They had the air scoop and then the circulator pump on the return. The tech told me this was the problem, the air scoop needed to be on the feed. So I followed his advice and re piped the air scoop. Fired up the boiler and everything worked great. So now I know what the problem was, but I want to know why. Why did this matter? Why would that make such a difference? I know this was long. Thanks for reading!
