the corroded name plate looked like model A-B-665 series 2. Serial number is but readable by me. Does this model number tell enough to determine the specs and age?

That was made between 1974 and 1978, according to a CD I got at their factory years ago.
The firing rate using the original burner is 1.6 gallons per hour. Unless that boiler originally had a flame-retention burner, you could upgrade the burner and drop the firing rate by 10% or so and still get the same output.

If you have it replaced, make sure the new boiler is sized correctly by measuring the radiators. Search for EDR here.
Make sure the supply piping is more correct than at present, and made of iron pipe. All he has to do is read, and follow the manufacturers instructions. Two risers out of the boiler may be required.

You probably could put a gas conversion burner in that boiler but it;s not piped right and that boiler has a lot of miles on it. 1978 at best it's 43 years old and as I recall those had very narrow sections not the best steamer.
I think your money would be better spent on a new boiler
Just my opinion1
