Gas pressure regulator problem

Greetings,
Just curious. I recently found two gas pressure regulators with a frozen cap. I tried pb blaster with no luck. Do you have a secret way of removing the cap when it is stuck? I was afraid to break it.

Hi @RayWohlfarth , That's a strange shape to grab, but if you can find a square socket, that might give you sufficient bearing surface. Or cut a square hole in a piece of steel plate so it's a snug fit, then use a wrench on the plate while holding it down firmly. Also, tightening and loosening repeatedly and maybe using a hammer to tap on your wrench in both directions and "worry" it loose. What fun! >:)

    Yours, Larry

ps, If you can find a piece of heavy "C" channel, 2 or 3 feet long. Cut that square hole in it at the center of the length and now you'll have yet another specialty tool to work with :p

Never had that happen usually a pair of Channel locks and it's off. Doesn't look corroded but you know how aluminum gets.

Guess I wouldn't put a torch on it, LOL :)

I guess some Kroil oil or something. There is usually a gasket underneath the cap maybe that is gone and it froze together.

Suppose you could get a new cap and cut that one out

    Never Seize works wonders

Maybe some light tapping would knock out the aluminum dust

Makes me wonder if water got i the vent line

Suppose you could disconnect the vent line and split the regulator to take it apart. Then you could turn it upside down and fill the cap area with Krol oil and let it soak

Then with the top of the reg removed put it on the bench and heat it a little

I've had this happen, I just tap it pretty good with plastic hammer.
Then Knipex pliers get a good bite on the cap.
    Some are plastic.

Thank you all. That regulator is not the one I was referring to. I forgot to get a picture when I was there. There is lots of moisture in the boiler room and I guess that is what caused it to seize
