Is there a hand-held, see-through image-producing device which, when held up to most any size water/heating pipe, will show buildup/obstructions in the pipe? Maybe a sonic-type device? Who makes?  Thanks

    IF the deposits are hard... X-Ray will likely show it. X-ray rarely will show soft deposits, and may miss certain kinds of hard deposits.

    IF you have a good value for flow through the pipe... Use of an advanced high end ultrasonic flow meter will show a distorted flow and tell you that the pipe is restricted at that point.

    These are techniques used in Nuclear Power plants - where we often have onsite a staff that can do X-Ray, and most plants usually have the advanced high end ultrasonic flowmeters (several thousand dollars each) needed to do this.

    You can likely replace the piping system cheaper than you can hire these services (pipe/tube X-ray vendors typically start at about $5000 just to drive their truck into your place).
