Delayed Steam Condensate Return......But For 5 Months?

Started a steam boiler a few days ago. Level was good in sight glass.
Come back the next day and boiler was flooded.
The LWCO was given the broken union test and passed.
The strainer and poppet valve were clean and working.

A couple of years ago on a different boiler that was started up, just as steam pressure
started up there was a flood of water returning in the "dry" returns.
The returning water was cold. There was not time for any steam to go out and
condense for return.

Both systems have "dry" returns that may have become partially "wet",
there are portions of returns and F&T's that are hidden,
or EOM F&T's that may have not drained. I am thinking that a little steam pressure may
have nudged the hung up water to flow back.

Anyone else have this happen?

I think your probably right. Chances are a trap was stuck closed and held some water until the steam pressure pushed it along
