Preinsulated piping for chilled water cooling

I just ran a pair of preinsulated 1/2" pex with 1/2" of insulation for a fan coil. I have an old house with metal lath and plaster walls. The insulation got real eaten up on the way through some of the walls. In a couple spots it's like 50% removed. No exposed pipe.

Any recommendations on how to deal with this? I'm guessing this is an issue for condensation.

it's already difficult enough to get this stuff through 2x4 walls. Any recommendations for keeping the pipe intact in the future?

Best,

I wonder if you can but the 1/2” insulation that goes on minisplit linesets. It as a more durable coating on it normally since it’s frequently pushed through walls.

Or you Just could use 1/2” minisplit lineset for that matter. Its softer than normal copper, but be warned it can kink. 1/2” copper will flow more than 1/2” PEX.

Some of our regular 3/8 3/4 split system linesets have been coming also with more durable insulation. I’ll see if there’s a link.
