long threads on one inch nipple for pigtail

I guess what I am asking is what is the long threads on this nipple called. It is connected to our steam boiler pressure control.The threads leak steam . We need a gasket but what kind.... very vague ;I know , but at this facility ,I can't send pictures.

    Is it a tapered thread? A straight thread wont seal without a few wraps of teflon tape and even then it might be iffy.

    Use teflon tape and or pipe compound, that should fix any minor steam leaks.

    I was just informed it is called an adjustable nipple. I did send a pic but I don't see it here.Thanks.

    That sounds like a nipple from an H B Smith Boiler. Try to send another picture.
