Hello all
I am a plumber who has experience with residential gas fired boilers. I am hungry to learn more on the commercial side of heating and to learn more about oil fired boilers and it’s various components. Does anyone have any recommendations on books that would be good to read up on??

There's all kinds of stuff available. For oil burners the best book is "Domestic and Commercial oil Burners by Charles Burkhardt. It's probably a little dated but the basics don't change. it was last printed about 1970. You can find them on E-bay and used book stores.
You can also find good info from the burner MFgs Carlin, RW Beckett, Power Flame and Riello.
Cleaver Brooks if you search their website has a "BOILER ROOM GUIDE (I think that's the name) available on their site that has a lot of good information on Commercial boiler rooms. Also check out "Oil Tech Talk" on the internet they have a forum with lots of information.
Also @RayWohlfarth on this site
That will get you started1 -
Buy @RayWohlfarth’s books. All of them are good.
Go to atplearning.com and buy their boiler books. My personal favorite is the Boiler Operators Workbook
Look up PowerFlame, Webster, and Gordon Piatt burner manuals. The Gordon Piatt manuals are very good and explain their different oil systems.Never stop learning.0 -

@EBEBRATT-Ed they are out of business. But can still learn a lot from reading their manuals.
And here in DC they’re still one of the most common burners.Never stop learning.0 -

Just bought a copy. Read first chapter. Clear and concise. Seems to be well written. Got to love reading the old time books. Seems that they a special flavor. Thanks @Larry Weingarten0 -

Hi @STEAM DOCTOR , When this pandemic is over, head to New York City and visit the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen. Along with a bunch of old water heaters, I gave them most of my old books on technical stuff, that I collected over about forty years of trips to used book stores
. They set up a reading room so you can sit and enjoy!
Yours, Larry
ps. Get anything by Frederick Dye!2 -
