My good friend, Doug Ashwood, saw this old sign in a basement of a home in South Arlington.

I was Doug’s helper in the summers of 1986 and 1987 at Arlington Heating. We still keep up. I learned from the best!

The phone number probably dates back to before dial service came to Falls Church. You could probably use this to get an idea of how old the sign is.

Further research indicates that at least one of the Falls Church exchanges used #1 Crossbar switching, which the Bell System used between 1938-1947 in cities and some suburban areas. So that sign probably can't be any newer than 1947.

    Pre-war radiant heat most likely.
    Retired and loving it.
