    Use a 3/4" Black Iron coupling.

    I know this air problem is new, but if you’re going to drain the system to make improvements, why not go all in?

    Install a good air separator on the supply, move the pump to the supply, pump away from the expansion tank and install a better backflow preventor and fill valve. Caleffi’s is hard to beat.
