At the bottom of a main steam line where it goes vertical to split on a two pipe system I have a fairly large trap maybe 6" tall. It appears that it is stuck open based on temps its feeding back to condensate return line my questions is for a 4" mainline on a low pressure system should that big of a trap be there ?

Depends on how much condensate you are processing. I can't imagine you'd need anything more than a 1" NPT trap, but those are typically 6" tall, not what I consider a big trap. Post a pic.Peter Owens
