aquastat

I have a Honeywell Ra832A aquastat that will open up when I tap it. It will then circulate water for about a day until I tap it again. As you can tell by this post don't know much about this, any ideas.

#1. This is not an aquastat.
#2. The control is probably getting stuck intermittently or the electrical contacts on the relay are pitted and not making a good electrical connection. The percussion of tapping then moves the relay clapper or contacts to a position of better electrical contact to complete the circuit
#3 They are inexpensive enough to just replace it
#4 If you are not comfortable with electrical control wiring and the safe practices needed to properly replace the control, then call a professional plumber or heating contractor to do the work.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

The Taco SR501 is a good replacement for the RA832A. Pick one up, post back with some pics and we'll help you wire it if needed.
