Flooding radiators

i have a down feed steam system 2 pipe with traps on all the radiators and at the bottom of all steam main drops running boiler at 2-3 pounds of pressure ive done a lot of work to bring the system back to its original piping design i have even heat in 53 of the 55 apts 1 apt very close to boiler 1st floor [20 feet] from boiler 2 rads back to back on same steam main drop dont get hot they flood ive changed traps and rad valves changed trap on bottom of main drop return line clear 3 apts on same main above all work great same return handles mirror image apts witch work great we replaced return lines for second apt waiting for heating season to see if that resolves problem

    Pressure is probably too high. Crank it down and I'll bet that solves the problem.

    Your down feed steam system was probably set to operate at a maximum of one psi.

    You do not mention a condensate/boiler feed pump so how do get rid of the system air. If you have a main air removal device in the boiler room you are OK.

    I think your low floor radiators are level with boiler.

    to get the condensate back into the boiler the water level in the return line has to rise at least 2.31 feet per pound of steam to over come the steam pressure in the boiler. Once the water in the return drains out the radiators will not flood.

    i have a condensate receiver i replaced last winter when i started working in the building old one was shot {had no choice but to install a 2 inch main trap} i found the vent on the old one piped into the chimney it was blowing steam like a train whistle there r vents in the boiler room i am replacing traps on rads its an uphill climb with owners of apts theyve been screwed over by so many guys who dont under stand steam its a hard sell how about a vapor stat
