Gents (and potentially Ladies): Does anyone know if those old O-E System main vents with the expanding rod are likely to still function? Or would one be better off replacing it with something modern? Your thoughts.

Well, since I've gone to look at the system, my questions also expand! Originally an O-E, most of the "traps" are intact, but all of the valves have been changed. The exhauster is in place, but it's capped and all kinds of other stupidity is in place. Additional steam main vents, pressuretrol set for 2#, you know the drill. It needs a new boiler anyway, and a complete going over. But since I've never worked on an O-E, here are my important questions: (1) I know it was low pressure, but did it employ orifice valves? (2) And if so, where the radiators 20% oversized like a Mouat?0
