This is old news, but I was in one of these facilities last week for some demo work. It's sad that all that energy in leftover wood is left to rot and release CO2. By burning it the same CO2 is released as well as the stored solar energy.
Right-of-way cleaning, forestry waste were all turned into electricity with very clean burning 850psi steam turbines. I was not able to take pictures, but it was pretty neat for a wood-junkie.
