What is the difference between interupted & intermittent ignition?

    According to the HW Safeguard Textbook:
    Intermittent ignition---maintained during the entire run period of the burner.

    Interrupted ignition---cuts off automatically after flame is proved or after predetermined time.

    Interrupted ignition seems to cause more or a pulsating flame.
    I have recommended re-wiring many oil burners to solve field problems.

    Was on a job once with a contractor on an oil boiler that was burning at 7 gph. As soon as the spark turned off the boiler started bouncing on the floor. Wired for interrupted(constant) and it purred like a kitten. Okay maybe a lion, but it wasn't jumping!
