Leaking Gorton #2

Member Posts: 20
I have a Gorton #2 that is leaking steam under pressure (1.25lbs). I have taken it off, blown it out, drained it, etc. but it still seems to leak. Is there any other action I can take to try to clean it or fix it or is it shot now and should be replaced? Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you.

The Gorton #4's I've tried have leaked if there was any water in them. I have a separate near-boiler piping issue I'm fixing shortly - I'm hoping to see they hold good once I dry off the steam.0

I don't know if it would do anything but try soaking it in vinegar. Could just be deposits causing it to leak. Vinegar shouldn't hurt anything.Peter Owens

I had the same trouble with one of mine. I turned it upside down and taped the vent holes shut. Then I filled it with vinegar and let it sit. I believe it was at least 24 hours. Maybe a little longer. It's been fine ever since.0

I will try the vinegar and report back. This one is only about 10 years old. I have others that are older and not acting up so not sure what went wrong with this one. I have an otherwise very clean, tight and quiet system.0

The vinegar worked. Thank you.
I used distilled white vinegar and let it sit for a few days. When I poured it out it came out a blue color with an occasional rust particle mixed in. Rinsed it out with water and works fine now.0 -
Happy to hear it.0
