Joint sealant for fuel oil tank pipes

Hi,
Reading NFPA 31Fuel Oil Piping, Installation and Testing
Chapter 8 Fuel Piping Systems and Components
8.2.5.2
"All threaded joints and components shall be made tight with suitable lubricant or pipe compound".

Does "pipe compound" preclude using Teflon tape on the joints or is Teflon OK to use?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Teflon is never ok. Fuel pump manufacturer's (same for OSV & Tiger Loop) specifically tell you not to use teflon tape on any fuel oil joints.

There was an error rendering this rich post.

Pipe dope paste containing Teflon is ok.

No Teflon tape of any kind.

Teflon tape works well on oil but people over tightened fittings and ruined pumps and were not cautious about getting it inside the pipe where it can clog stuff up. We used it in the old days with no issues, but it is now banned.

Any pipe dope suitable for fuel oil is ok. It will say it on the can if useable for fuel oil.

Gasoilia is one brand that is popular
