Replacing Hoffman with Gorton

Hey guys,
So last I posted I mentioned the incredibly loud floor to ceiling pipes on the top floor of my pre-war NYC apartment. I've bought a Gorton No. C air valve to replace the Hoffman #43 that's there now. The only problem is that -- while both have 1/4" openings -- the exterior of the Gorton C is a bit larger than that of the Hoffman and thus cannot fit into the pipe. I've included pictures below as reference.
My question is this: is there anyway of remedying this? Is there an extension pipe that I could attach? Or perhaps a different Gorton? Something?
As always, thanks in advance!

How much headroom do you have between the opening for the vent and the ceiling? All Steamed Up, Inc.

It looks like the Hoffman is 1/8" NPT (national pipe thread), while the Gorton you have is 1/4" NPT (?). You can buy a brass adapter (1/4" female NPT to 1/8"male NPT) or return the 1/4" Gorton and get an 1/8" Gorton. All Steamed Up, Inc.

There's about 8 inches from pipe to ceiling. I've included a picture below. And is that the case (that it's 1/4 and not 1/8)? My landlord said that it was a 1/4" hole, but I think that you're right. The holes are both 1/4" wide; it's the exterior that's super thick on the Gorton. Maybe I could just buy the adapter.
As always, thanks for your input, everyone0 -
