supply house blues

has anyone else had a damaged product delivered to the job it was a water heater. i have a video of damage to the box and heater i never even moved it. I'm not going to post the whole story or supply house name yet I'm going to give the owner a chance next week to right the situation. but there policy is I'm responsible to pay for the water heater they damaged and they will only refund whatever amount of money they can sell it for as a scratch and dent. so they sent me a bill last month for both heaters of course i didn't pay it i called to complain. this month they sent me a bill with 500 dollars added to each heater and a finance charge. i did leave a message for the owner when it happened but he never returned my phone call. they delivered the second heater 3 hrs later after they said it would take 45 minutes. when the driver started to take it off i stopped him he was trucking it from a side marked do not truck from this side. he said he didn't know that he has been a driver there for 3 years. i don't even know what to do. the supply house finance guy said last month if I'm that hard up maybe they can try to work something out for me ( i have those exact words on the voice mail he left)

    Gather your evidence and take them to small claims court before they hurt you more. You need to go on the offensive immediately. I wouldn't buy anything from them take your business elsewhere. Most states have limits on small claims, used to be 1500-2000 don't know what it is now.

    Have proof with pictures, save voice mail, show proof you called owner anything else you can think of, don't let them off the hook

    You will win, good luck

    Horrible, and they wonder why more people purchase online.
    Even Home Depot does a better job than this.
    We had a Wallie call someone out before. It received a lot of interest and definitely dissuaded people from using them-costing them business.

    There was an error rendering this rich post.

    thanks steve my biggest regret in life is getting into this trade. and i hate to say it but i tell kids not to and most of my plumbing and heating friends feel the same. 2 very close friends of mine have recently gotten out they say it was the best decision of there life. can't talk about price on the wall but homeowners can purchases same products for 50% less than i can at supply house. how can you sell products but not stock any parts to repair them. they told me to stock them. sorry for the rant but I'm so over it. there are 10s of thousands of truck driver jobs open but they cant fill them to much stress and not enough pay same as this trade. let the unlicensed home improvement contractors do all the work. the state of ct doesn't care

    @mikedo,

    Certainly this can be a frustrating business and many of us can feel your pain. It's real

    But their are ways to conquer this. There are ways of staying in this business and being happier about it.

    There is a big shortage of "qualified" mechanics needed, there's way too many hacks out there.

    1. be careful who you work for customer wise. Some are only their to take you to the cleaners.
    2. Personally I think the supply house is doing you wrong. Find someone else.
    3. you could also get a job "on site" in , manufacturing factory, hospital, large insurance company etc (CT has plenty of those) doing plumbing or heating. These are generally less stressful jobs than dealing with the general public.

    I thought there was a limit on the finance charge they can legally apply. 1.5% monthly or 18% annually I think. might be wrong but the $1000 charge seems absurd.
