What Air Vent size do you think is best? Top floor apartment in NYC

Hello All,
I live in a 5th floor apartment in an older walk up building in NYC. When I first moved in the radiator in the main bedroom was making an unbelievable hissing sound. So, I swapped the air vent to Gorton D. Now, there is a large woosh sound (that lasts for longer and blows harder than vents I've had in the past) and some gurgling coming from the vent, so I think maybe I picked the wrong size?
Our heating system is a one pipe steam system. The boiler is in the basement, 6 floors below us. Our super is very unresponsive, so it's really difficult to get any other information (main venting, pressure, etc..), so the only thing I can really do is pitch the radiators and try different valves.
What size would you think is typically best for this type of apartment?
Thanks.

Sounds like you're doing some bulk venting there.
You don't say but,
Are you hot or cold ?
Cause I would suggest slowing the venting to lessen the sound,
but this may leave you cold(er),
or drape a wash cloth / rag / sock, (wrap in in a towel) over the vent to deaden it.
It all starts at the boiler though, and you know this.
R U friendly with the neighbors? They have these same problems?
Gotta get the super and management interested.

You should vent piping and radiators separately. Install master vents on risers. Install radiator vents in radiators.Gennady Tsakh

Agreed. ^^^ The system is probably missing some vents in the cellar. You'll need someone to look over the whole system to make it right.Contact John "JohnNY" Cataneo, NYC Master Plumber, Lic 1784
