Finding Your Main Vent

I am having trouble locating my main vent(s). I have followed my pipes all around the basement but haven’t seen anything that looks like a main vent. I also haven’t found anything that is plugged like it had a main vent. Is it possible to have a single pipe steam system without a main vent? Any help is much appreciated!

Possible, but not good.
Would have worked sort of OK when things were coal fired.
Had all day to vent air thru the radiators with a simmering fire.
But today with on/off burners main vents are needed for efficiency.
You see no plugs anywhere? Not even right at the boiler returns?
Or has any newer piping been done that would have eliminated a port for venting?0 -
Quite possible no main vents were ther, particularly if your house was originally coal fired. Mine had no main vents until a few years ago when I installed them. 1926 house coal fired, then converted to oil, then to gas about 35 years ago. No main vents all that time.0
