Baseboard in wood frame

Instead of the baseboard in your typical metal frame, has anyone used a prefrab wood or make there own. My baseboard is old and dirty, I would like to box them out with some wood, any suggestions?

Yep, seen a few custom made enclosures.
You need to have adequate air flow, opening under and above the fin to get air flow. I've seen enclosures with the front built down to the floor, very limited output without a path for air currents to move across the fin.
It's sometimes nice to have adjustable dampers to fine tune or balance the various locations.Bob "hot rod" Rohr

I 'wooden' do it.
I agree, they're ugly even brand new.
Why not just clean it up and paint it. You could get a person who does faux wood finishing to make it look custom. There was an error rendering this rich post.
