just a basic question, when building a drop header , is going higher better off the boiler for example, is I can install a 2-1/2 foot riser or a 3 foot riser am I better off with a 3 foot?

The higher the riser, the better as far as water dropping out of the steam. If you are using both risers, there probably isn't much difference in being 6" higher.0

book only calls for one riser 2 1/2 inch i am going to put it 30 inch high.0

Use both risers, always, and don’t bush them down. My opinion of course.0

The manufacturers minimum requirements will work . To me the longer the risers the better. If the risers are long enough a regular header is ok. I feel a drop header is more important with short risers. That's just my opinion.
Regardless of what the mfg says I always check the steam velocity of the risers. To me that's the most important thing0 -
Thanks guys, I went to the job to look at the new steam boiler, it’s wider then the old one, that is going to make it a little tougher because it has to be that much tighter.0
