What is this vent ?

Is this a return vent on this Daikin ducted mini split heat pump? Should there be an air filter put in there ? There was not when I bought the house. So I put one in with the arrow facing down. Now I’ve notified it’s not working as effectively.

whats not working as effectively? Is the filter now plugged? Did an issue start the minute you put the filter in?0

I noticed the following couple nights it is taking several hours to cool the upstairs down to the set temp compared to usually like an hour or two. It could be coincidental because it’s been 90s and very humid these nights. But I just want to make sure that is indeed a return supply and not like an intake or something that shouldn’t be impeded.0

Is there a filter at the unit? What type of filter did you use?
Also as you said, it's been incredibly hot and humid. The humidity is killing systems right now. Even my own which I oversized cannot keep up.Single pipe quasi-vapor system. The ac model is daikin fdxs09lvju. I dug up a user manual and apparently it has an air filter in it already somewhere. I just have no clue where. Anyone know?
I put a 3M 1 inch in that grate so I think that was overly restrictive, reduced efficiency and it led to a little water leaking from one of the air vents in the ceiling actually. I pulled it out and will see what happens tonight (should be same temp out tonight). Just want to get in there and clean out any existing filters since it hasn’t been done in a couple years since I bought the house.0 -

Many of the mini-split ducted evaporators have very little static capability. Even without a filter they have about a "puff" of air capability. Adding an extra filter can seriously limit air flow. Your first step is to clean the evaporator. They are good units, but as with all things mechanical, the out of sight out of mind attitude can bite you when you need it. Set up a maintenance schedule.0
