Blowdown valve replacement

Greetings All,
First home with steam heat, moved in 4 years ago... and this site has been simply invaluable!! Thanks to all contributors!
Need a little help with this: I'm replacing the blow down valve on an older McDonnell&Miller series 67 lwco - with spring loaded valve - with a new 14-B ball valve.
At one point instructions say "For spring type blow down valves, the spring mechanism must be removed from the control body".
Can anyone guide me as to how to remove this spring mechanism? A few pictures included, one of the spring mechanism, one of new valve and old (which came out no problem! ).
Thank you in advance!
