Help identifying something with a heating system

Looking to buy this condo that has steam heat. The unit has no thermostat... this is all it has. Does anyone know what it is?

    Probably a remote temperature sensor for either a thermostat, zone control or TRV.

    Hard to tell from picture. Looks like 2 wire thermostat wire. Could be a head unit or remote sensor to a trv. Hard to tell from angle.

    If no switches or knobs it would probably just be temp sensor as they said. Meaning you do not have individual control of your unit temps. :*

    IIWM I would talk to some of the neighbors to see how well the heating system works for everyone in the building.
    And if there are any problems find out well they are resolved.

    Many tenants and condo/coop occupants have visited here with some major problems.........on the other hand those who are comfortable, we do not hear from them. FWIW

    PS: Is this one or 2 pipe steam, pictures of heaters would be good.

    Boy, be sure to take @JUGHNE advise. Condo owners post here and some of those buildings are nightmare to say the least. Talk with other owners if at all possible

    It is certainly true what ebebratt has said: badly run coop, or condo regimes can make sure the heating systems are VERY uncomfortable, while at the same time using enormous amounts of extra fuel, which of course is a financial burden for the owners.
    The problem is not with steam or hot water heat, which if properly maintained can be more comfortable than forced air, but with the sick and corrupt business management practices of some condo regimes.
    Talking to the neighbors would be a good source of information.
    If they don’t know how to manage the heating system, then what about the roof?—NBC
